Birthed over coffee and a curiousity for new song-writing partners, Winnipeg's Courier News is an innovative collaboration between Juno Award winner Alexa Dirks (Chic Gamine) and Western Canadian Music Award winner Matt Schellenberg (The Liptonians, Royal Canoe).
Their debut is an intimate EP, mostly recorded in Schellenberg's home office in fits and spurts between busy touring/recording schedules. The result is a lush blend acoustic and digital instrumentation into warm, honest pop music.
Straying from their usual instruments, the disc features sampled drum loops, digital keyboards, reed organ, vocoder, piano, autoharp, found sounds and lots of computer trickery. This all lays a foundation for the beautiful vocal interplay between Schellenberg's charming, earnest delivery and Dirks' soulful pipes. A true testament to the power of curious collaboration and a strong cup of coffee
