Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, The Stiff Bishops are a vibrant power-pop band who has been creating their brand of driving, punk/mod/new-wave inspired music for the past 6 years.
Veterans of the local music scene, each of The Stiff Bishops brings a wealth of talent and experience to the stage and the studio. Forming in 2004, the original lineup consisted of Brian Parker (MTQ/Puddlefish) on drums, Paul “Twist” Schaeffer (The Johns/Puddlefish) on guitar, and Kevin Mears (Discharge /Monuments Galore/Puddlefish) on bass and lead vocals. With growth and some lineup changes, today the band features Mears on lead vocals, Schaeffer on guitar, Duncan “Sweet Potato” Kirkpatrick (Poe Alley/Bored Millionaires) on drums, Eric Loewen (Monuments Galore) on guitar, and Russ "Cracker Jack" Kroeker on bass.
Playing local venues both gritty and grand, The Stiff Bishops have developed a rich, infectious, crowd-pleasing sound. Their live shows often feature tunes from The Clash, The Buzzcocks, The Chords, The Undertones and Wire in addition to their cache of high-energy Stiff Bishops originals.
With the 2009 EP release Four Songs and Counting and continuous live performances around Winnipeg, fans and supporters of the local music scene are getting a lot of what they want from their new favorite band!
